Above the inscription Gurney has executed in ink and watercolor a highly finished sketch of two dogs and two birds, with relevant captions. Canadian-born, award- winning artist Eric Gurney was long associated with the animation wing of Disney Studios before embarking on his solo career as illustrator, cartoonist and commercial artist. The recipient is tentatively identified as the Captain of the passenger ship, the S.S. Independence.
