A short letter from renowned American archivist and historian Peter Force to New York bookseller William F. Gowans. The letter states that the recent delivery of books from Gowans' shop did not include Wilkes' controversial work, ESSAY ON WOMEN, and Force, realizing he perhaps forgot to order it in the first place, asks for it to be sent down. Gowans' inventory at his death was large enough that it took sixteen auction sessions to disperse it.
