The rare second edition of one of the earliest detailed maps of Dakota Territory, here present in its uncolored state. "The prospectus on the inside of the front cover in this edition is the same as the one in the first edition except for the addition of 'Second Edition - 1863.' This edition gives several new counties along the eastern boundary of the Territory, both in the inset and on the main map, and there are various new counties in the southern part of the Territory. The inset in this issue shows the creation of Idaho Territory to the west of Dakota" - Streeter. Not in Wheat's MAPPING THE TRANSMISSISSIPPI WEST.
