AUTHENTIC BIOGRAPHY OF COLONEL RICHARD M. JOHNSON, OF KENTUCKY.

Boston: Published for the Proprietor, 1834. 92,[1]pp. 12mo. Original half cloth and plain paper boards, printed paper label affixed to front board. Boards a bit soiled and edgeworn. Hinges cracked, occasional spotting. Very good, in the original binding. Item #WRCAM47511

Second edition, following the New York edition of the year before. This biography was issued during Martin Van Buren's campaign for the Presidency, to which he was elected, with Johnson as his vice president. Notable for its account of Johnson's service on the western frontier during the War of 1812, especially with Harrison and at the Battle of Tippecanoe. According to the Congressional documents included in the appendix herein, Johnson seems quite opposed to the notion of postal service on Sundays. Emmons also wrote a biography of Van Buren. DAB X, pp.114-16. SABIN 22532, 36274. AMERICAN IMPRINTS 24311.
