Supplementary issue to the NEW HAMPSHIRE GAZETTE, the nation's oldest newspaper, listing extensive property throughout the state which is to be sold at public auction for failure to pay the assessed Direct Tax. The notice preceding the list reads, "Notice is hereby given, that the Direct Tax of the United States for 1815, on the following described property, situate in this state, having remained unpaid one year from the time of the Notification of the Collector in whose district the said property lies...will be sold at public sale at the house of Nathaniel Brown, in Portsmouth," on Jan 28, 1817. The list, printed in five columns in a small font over four pages, is continued on the first page of the GAZETTE.
