First edition of this account of a journey across the United States by the popular Danish author Topsoë. A Swedish translation was published in Stockholm in 1874 and a second Danish edition was printed in Copenhagen in 1876. Topsoë's itinerary included stops in New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Niagara Falls, Chicago, Louisville, Omaha, Utah, and California. Two chapters, and portions of three additional chapters, concern the Mormons. The full-page wood-engravings include scenes from major cities such as Broadway in New York, Philadelphia's Independence Hall, and the United States Capitol as well as natural wonders such as Niagara Falls, Yosemite, and a giant grizzly bear. A finely illustrated account of a later 19th-century trip across the United States. OCLC 13970900. FLAKE 8976 (ref., listing the Stockholm ed. only)
