Later stereotype edition of the work (originally published in 1852), it is "identical with the 1863 edition and may precede it in date" (Hitchcock). The designs show the influence of the Picturesque style, and most are actually in the style created by Downing known as the Bracketed Mode, which features board and batten walls, barge boards, ample verandahs, and molded chimney pots.
