A brief manual regarding the cultivation of the nopal plant for the purpose of cochineal cultivation. The cochineal is a small bug which lives on nopal plants and yields a superb dye which was much prized until the advent of modern dyestuffs. The author's work was originally intended for developing nopal plantations in the Canary Islands. In this pamphlet, Da Cruz e Gonçalves's instructions are published specifically for the development of the cochineal trade in Madeira. Not in OCLC.
