This claim was submitted by the heirs of Beaumarchais, the great French playwright who produced THE BARBER OF SEVILLE and THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO, requesting compensation for the funds their ancestor expended in supporting the American Revolution. Beaumarchais formed a firm called Hortalez & Co., and sent shiploads of arms, munitions, and military supplies to the Americans.
