THE NEW-YORK DIRECTORY, CONTAINING, A VALUABLE AND WELL CALCULATED ALMANACK; - TABLES OF THE DIFFERENT COINS, SUITABLE FOR ANY STATE, AND DIGESTED IN SUCH ORDER, AS TO RENDER AN EXCHANGE BETWEEN ANY OF THE UNITED STATES PLAIN AND EASY.

[Np. nd, ca. 1850s]. 82pp. plus folding map. Early 19th-century speckled calf. Distressed and split along spine. Pages tanned and dampstained, map detached and worn. Else good. Item #WRCAM29523

A crudely constructed fake, made to look like an original copy of the rare 1786 New York City directory by Franks. Most likely executed in the early 1850s, following John Doggett's 1851 reprint of the Franks directory. The map is a copy of the one included in the 1851 reprint, cropped down to eliminate print identifying it as a copy. With faint type, long s's, typographical errors - the works. SPEAR, p.231 (ref).
