An eloquent letter, in striking contrast to the more banal lotto advertisements of today. Egerton & Brothers invite the recipient to participate in one of several lotteries sponsored by their company, with funds guaranteed by the State of Maryland. In a thinly veiled attempt to raise revenue for Maryland on the eve of civil war, they boast of participation from Maine to Texas, and "in every State in our Glorious Union"
