Everett, one of the most famous American orators, is most remembered for his oration at Gettysburg on Nov. 19, 1863, which was followed by Lincoln's immortal speech. He was also the first American to be awarded a Ph.D. degree. Signed simply, "With the best respects of Edward Everett Summer Street, 20 Nov. 1839." DAB VI, pp.223-6.
