Considered by Howes and other authorities the "best edition" because of its inclusion of Rufus B. Sage's superb map of the West, which otherwise appeared only in Sage's book of the preceding year. It is far rarer than the regular Fremont map, which it resembles in many respects. Fremont's narrative is one of the most important of western explorations, chronicling his trip over the Oregon Trail and into the Great Basin. It was published in numerous editions. HOWES F370.
