New edition, revised and enlarged, of this indispensable bibliographical guide to Pacific voyages, Hawaii, the Pacific Northwest, and the South Seas. Bound in cloth, this edition of Hill is superior to its predecessor in many ways:

- The 1937 entries are numbered for the first time, for easy reference. Authors' names are in bold face to assist the reader.
- A comprehensive general index and chronological index assist the researcher.
- Many errors in the first edition have been corrected and numerous annotations expanded. Collations are now given in a consistent format.
- The entire work is in a single large octavo volume, handsomely printed and bound, and designed to lie flat for easy use.
- An essay by Jonathan Hill, "Kenneth Evan Hill as a Book Collector," describes the formation of the collection.
- In every way, the "new" Hill qualifies as the "second and best" edition.

Susanne M. Low: A GUIDE TO AUDUBON'S BIRDS OF AMERICA. New Haven and New York: William Reese Company and Donald A. Heald, 2002.

The introduction discusses the artistic and technical collaboration between Audubon and his printmakers, especially Robert Havell, Jr., as well as offering a succinct explanation of ornithological taxonomy. A special feature of the book is the section devoted to the relatively little-known Bien edition. Several indexes and appendices offer easy access to additional historical and technical information.
