A Complete Run of Catalogs of The William Reese Company, from Number 1 to Number 293.
New Haven, Ct. [1980-2011]. 293 catalogues. Many illustrations. About ten catalogs in photocopy. Original printed or pictorial wrappers. Condition varies but generally fine or as new. William Reese Company issued its first catalog in January of 1980. Thirty years later we are at catalog 270, and a run takes up eight linear feet of shelf. A recent reorganization of our warehouse allows us to offer a few complete sets of our catalogs for sale. In these catalogs we have offered tens of thousands of books for sale in our fields of Americana, travels and voyages, natural history, bibliography, American and English literature, fine press books, and manuscripts, with side excursions into photography, painting, and the graphic arts. Many of the catalogs are thematic by place (such as Utah and the Mormons), time (such as Americana Before 1700), events (such as the American Revolution), genre (such as broadsides, First Books, Literature of the Great War, and Little Magazines), or reference work (such as our well-known Streeter Sale Revisited catalogues). Thousands of items which appear in these catalogs were never offered for sale online or in other venues. Many have found these catalogs valuable reference tools, and we can certainly say they contribute to an important record of the rare book market in our generation. $1650. plus shipping

Two New Occasional Lists
Fire, it seems, is to publishers' warehouses as tornadoes are to trailer parks - their natural predator. Whether supported by historical evidence, an unsubstantiated rumor, or just wishful thinking, the claim that a substantial part of the edition of a particular publication was destroyed in a fire is a recurring theme of bibliographies and bookseller catalogues. This list contains items from our Americana and Literature inventories that are said to have been the victim of such a calamity. Also included are books and pamphlets said to have been suppressed, destroyed, or withdrawn from circulation, either because the press or publisher was attacked by an angry mob, or the work was riddled with printing errors, or the author or subject's family sought to avoid embarrassing revelations. We of course find such publications interesting for this aspect of their history, but also for the variety of subjects included - political polemics, religious works, memoirs, illustrated works by renowned artists, histories, literature, poetry, accounts of travel and exploration among them. We therefore issue this list of disparate works united by a common theme. Should the list not perform to our expectations, we will have to assume that it was forgotten in a postal warehouse somewhere, where it was, unfortunately ....
