FORMULATION : ARTICULATION.
Albers, Josef:
New York & New Haven: Harry N. Abrams & Ives-Silliman Inc., [1972]. Two volumes. 73;66 leaves. Folio (ca. 15 x 20 inches). Loose sheets and bifolia, enclosed in gray linen folders and slipcases. Lower panel of one slipcase a bit marked from having rested on a shelf, otherwise a fine set. First edition. One of one thousand numbered sets, signed by Albers on the title leaf. One of Albers's major publications, recapitulating work from his "Homage to the Square" series, some of his geometrical abstractions from his time at the Bauhaus, and much else, captured in the form of 127 superbly executed silk-screen prints (dimensions vary), 121 of them in color and six in monochrome, printed on white wove Mohawk Superfine paper. This beautiful production constitutes almost an exhibition in itself, and in fact, has formed the nucleus for a considerable number of Albers exhibits since the time of its publication. Inevitably, many sets have also been broken up and the prints sold individually. Shipping charges extra. CASTLEMAN, p. 138.
