OWL'S CLOVER.
Stevens, Wallace:
New York: The Alcestis Press, [1936]. Large octavo. Printed orange wrapper over stiff wrapper. Spine a bit darkened, minimal wear at head and toe of spine, short, thin tear at lower edge of upper wrapper near spine fold, small spot of adhesive discoloration at fore-edge of half-title, but a very good copy, without slipcase. First edition. Copy #85 of eighty-five numbered copies on Strathmore all-rag paper, in addition to twenty copies on handmade paper numbered in Roman, all signed by the author. Inscribed on the half-title by the publisher, J. Ronald Lane Latimer: "for Arturo, that sweet & lovely one - from Jay, the publisher 10/22/36 - ." The date of the inscription precedes formal publication by two weeks, and the adhesive discoloration referenced above attends the inscription, as if the result of a (now absent) gift card having been affixed at one corner. Among the most sought- after of the Alcestis titles, and a key volume of 20th century American poetry. EDELSTEIN A3.
