Front board nearly detached, rubbed and dampstained, ex-lib. with shelf labels, bookplate and library information adhered to front pastedown. Map a bit foxed, repair on verso of tear at gutter of map with no loss. Internally very good, untrimmed. Second edition, revised, with a different map. "Emphasizes Philadelphia's strategic position for trade with the rising West" - Howes. The map of Pennsylvania, "reduced with permission from Reading Howells [sic] Map, by Samuel Lewis," is a detailed representation of the state, with rivers handcolored in blue, and canals handcolored in red. Additional material not present in the first edition includes brief sketches of countries which had been markedly improved by canal and river navigation, among them China, Holland, France, Russia, England and Spain.
