TRAVELS IN THE GREAT WESTERN PRAIRIES, THE ANAHUAC AND ROCKY MOUNTAINS, AND IN THE OREGON TERRITORY [wrapper title].
Farnham, Thomas J.:
New York: Greeley & McElrath..., 1843. 112pp. Original printed wrappers (soiled) bound in three quarter blue morocco and marbled boards. Overall very good. Third edition, first published in 1841. An important early account of the Oregon country. The author went overland in 1839 to Bent's Fort and then north to the Oregon Trail. After a brief sojourn during which he gathered materials, he sailed for home via the Sandwich Islands. The book became an effective piece of propaganda for advocates of American control of Oregon.
