NOUVELLES DECOUVERTES DES RUSSES ENTRE L'ASIE ET L'AMERIQUE, AVEC L'HISTOIRE DE LA CONQUETE DE LA SIBERIES & DU COMMERCE DES RUSSES & DES CHINOIS.
Coxe, William:
Neuchatel. 1781. xxiv,320pp. Vignettes and decorations. Half title. Contemporary stiff patterned wrappers, spine nearly perished. Dampstains through preface, else internally fine, untrimmed. First French translation, preceded by the first and second editions of London, 1780. Howes calls for four maps and a plate, but Sabin makes no mention of maps or plates and none are found in this copy. This is one of the keystone works on the history of Russian America, including a number of narratives of exploration. Coxe spent some time in Russia, working to establish the authenticity of the narratives he had collected. This proved to be an immensely popular book. HILL 391 (ref). SABIN 17310. TOURVILLE 1107. HOWES C834.
