KU KLUX KLAN. ITS ORIGIN, GROWTH AND DISBANDMENT.
Lester, J.C., and D.L. Wilson:
Nashville. 1884. 117pp. Later wrappers. Very good. The first work about the Ku Klux Klan. The so-called first Klan, which operated in the 1860s and '70s, was composed of former Confederate army officers and was primarily an anti-Reconstructionist, anti-Unionist group. While not exactly warmly disposed to Blacks, as a group it did not espouse the rabid, working class racism, anti- Semitism and anti-Catholicism of the later Klan. Lester presents this history as a defense of the Klan's activities. STREETER SALE 1295. HOWES L272.
