THE LIFE OF ROBERT FULTON, BY HIS FRIEND...COMPRISING SOME ACCOUNT OF THE INVENTION, PROGRESS, AND ESTABLISHMENT OF STEAM-BOATS; OF IMPROVEMENTS IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND NAVIGATION OF CANALS....
Colden, Cadwallader:

New York. 1817. vi,371pp. plus folding table. Portrait. Modern cloth with onlay of original front and rear printed paper from original boards. Foxed, else very good and untrimmed. The author, a lawyer and one-time mayor of New York City, took great interest in internal improvements and navigation, as is evidenced in his 1825 memoir on the completion of New York canals. He actively supported Fulton's patent rights and the steamboat monopoly. The DAB describes the present work as "an uncritical but detailed survey of the inventor's career, which minimizes the contributions of earlier pioneers in the field of steam navigation." SABIN 14277. DAB IV, pp.287-88. KRESS B6892.
