An important later edition of the THE FEDERALIST..., the first with material added by Madison. The essays it contains were written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay, to support the proposed federal constitution. Not only did the eighty-five essays collected herein play an important role in bringing about the passage of the Constitution, but they came to be recognized as the foremost commentary on the document by its chief architect and its most brilliant advocate.
