[Barinetti, Carlo]:
New York: Printed for the author, 1841. x,139pp. Contemporary half calf and marbled boards, neatly rebacked, boards rubbed. Bookplate on front pastedown, early ownership signature on front free endpaper and titlepage, gift inscription on first page of introduction. Scattered light foxing. Good. A scarce work of travel and observations on Mexico, Cuba, and the American South. Carlo Barinetti, whose first name is given as Charles in some references, was an Italian who taught French in Cincinnati and Kentucky. His remarks on the United States are mostly confined to slavery, which he views rather benignly, and to observations on Texas, especially vis a vis Mexico. Most of the text relates to Mexico and Cuba, with comments on politics, culture, and the military. A scarce and interesting work. Despite the Texas content, not in Streeter TEXAS. SABIN 3383. PALAU 372979. CLARK III:126.
