During the Mexican War of Independence against Spain, Bustamante, a doctor, fought for the Spanish as a cavalry officer before joining Iturbide's forces. He served as vice-president, and president of Mexico in 1830 and again from 1837 to 1841. Bustamante offers an account of his actions during the civil war, as well as his analysis of the motivations of others, including Santa Anna. Sabin lists an 1832 Mexico City edition in quarto of twenty-two pages, but not the present Vera Cruz edition. Not on OCLC. Rare. SABIN 9565 (ref).
