Avieny-Flory, Jacques-Émile-Adrien:

Montpellier: Jean Martel Ainé, Seul Imprimeur de la Faculté de Médecine, 1820. 43,[1]pp. Quarto. Dbd. Printed "No. 71" follows "DISSERTATION" at beginning of title, contemporary ownership inscription on titlepage. Fine woodcut headpiece at beginning of text. Light dampstaining throughout, but still a very good copy. An extremely rare French medical school dissertation concerned with yellow fever on the island of Guadeloupe, published as part of the requirement of the author's obtaining the title of Doctor in Medicine from the medical faculty in Montpellier. The work is based on the author's stay of seven month's on the island observing the effects of the disease. The dissertation includes an introduction to the topography of the island, a 27-page detailed discourse on the history of the disease with numerous footnotes, and suggested prophylactic methods. The final page includes a roster of the medical faculty and a list of the examination topics for the medical degree. Extremely rare, no copies on OCLC or RLIN, not in BEINECKE LESSER ANTILLES COLLECTION.
