TRAVELS AND ADVENTURES IN MEXICO: IN THE COURSE OF JOURNEYS OF UPWARD OF 2500 MILES, PERFORMED ON FOOT....
Carpenter, William W.:

New York. 1851. 300pp. plus ads. Original blindstamped green cloth, spine gilt. Cloth a bit faded and rubbed, some old evidence of dampstaining. Early bookplate on front pastedown, ownership signatures on front free endpaper and titlepage. A bit of light, scattered foxing. Overall, about very good. Carpenter joined a Kentucky volunteer regiment during the Mexican War and was captured in 1847 after the battle of Monterrey. In this work he gives an account of his experiences in Mexico during the war and after, including travels through then little-known towns such as Salamanca, Guanahuato, Guadalajara, Ahuacatlan, and Tepic, before reaching the United States once again. He offers much on the social and economic aspects of Mexico. SABIN 11017. TUTOROW 3633. GARRETT, p.197. HAFERKORN, p.43. SMITH, AMERICAN TRAVELLERS ABROAD C18.
