Wrappers soiled, worn, chipped at edges, spine perished, gathering loose. Minor foxing. A good copy. The second annual report produced for the state of Maine concerning geologic formations in the state itself and neighboring Massachusetts. Published in Augusta in 1838, an edition with different pagination and number of illustrations was printed in Boston the same year. Prepared by geological surveyor Charles T. Jackson, who also was responsible for the first and third reports published in 1837 and 1839 respectively, the volume includes extensive information about the geography of the region, emphasizing geologic formations and mining potenials. The finely produced wood engravings include views of various mountains (including Mt. Katahdin), Godfrey's Falls, and Aroostook Falls. The appendix consists of barometrical and meteorological observations taken at different locales in Maine.
