ACROSS AMERICA BY MOTOR-CYCLE.
Shepherd, C.K.:

New York and London. 1922. xii,248pp. plus portrait frontis. and fifteen photographic illustrations on nine plates. Original blue-gray cloth, printed in black. Cloth slightly scuffed, minor marginal foxing, else fine. At the close of World War I, Shepherd was wondering "what form of dissipation would be best suited to remove that haunting feeling of unrest, which as a result of three or four years of active service was so common amongst the youth of England" (p.v). A "trot round America" seemed a good option, and in 1919 Shepherd arrived in New York, bought a motorcycle, dubbed it "Lizzie," and rode 4,950 miles to San Francisco in three months. The book is a humorously written account of his relationships with Lizzie and the roads, towns, and landscapes of America. Quite rare. FROM TRAIN TO PLANE 86.
