Publisher's cloth, spine and front cover gilt, photograph of Buffalo Bill on front cover. Top and bottom of spine lightly bumped. Internally very clean, with portions of textblock beginning to spring. A very good copy. Buffalo Bill's autobiography of his early years, beginning with "How I killed my first Indian" at the age of eleven, his first trapping adventures at thirteen, and his experiences as a Pony Express Rider at fourteen. Covering his experiences through the mid-1880s, the book includes his meetings with generals Sherman, Sheridan, and Custer and accounts of various battles between Indians and the U.S. military. A fine introduction to the life of Cody, prior to his career as a showman, with much information on military engagements between the U.S. government and American Indians.
