Contemporary three quarter pebbled morocco over linen-covered boards, spines gilt. Moderately rubbed at extremities and joints. Text pages very clean, light dampstaining in bottom margin of plates in volume one, occasionally touching lower portion of plates. A very good set. The chromolithographs, which are after John L. Ridgeway, were produced by the Philadelphia firm of Ketterlinus. The plates are exclusively zoological drawings. A significant late 19th-century American color plate book of natural history.
