A handsome pen and ink drawing of an iconic Western image, by a revered Western artist. This original drawing by Harold Bugbee shows a cowboy on horseback on a grassy range. The cowboy and horse are in profile, with the cowboy's head turned to the right, facing the viewer. He holds a smoke in his right hand, and the reins in his left. Signed by Bugbee in the lower right corner. Harold Bugbee (1900-63) was one of the most accomplished and respected Western artists and illustrators of his day. He was born in Massachusetts but moved to Texas as a teenager, and was an eyewitness to the ranch life that was quickly passing into myth. Early in his career he was among the most prominent artists providing illustrations of the West for books, magazines, and newspapers, while later in life he concentrated on paintings and murals.
