A HISTORICAL TREATISE ON EARLY BUILDERS' MARKS.
Fort, George F.:

Philadelphia: McCalla & Stavely, 1885. 148pp. plus nine plates of builders' marks and 2pp. of advertisements. Original cloth, printed paper label on cover. Attractive bookplate. A near fine copy. Fort's erudite and scholarly books (this one contains 236 footnotes, mostly to sources in Latin and German, ) are a curiosity in the body of 19th-century American architectural literature; they would seem much more to be products of 20th-century art historical scholarship. Fort was also the author of EARLY HISTORY AND ANTIQUITIES OF FREEMASONRY. HITCHCOCK 464.
