(1) LETTER FROM THE CHEVALIER D'YRUJO, MINISTER PLENIPOTENTIARY TO THE UNITED STATES...(2) LETTER FROM JOHN PHILIPPS RIPLEY, TO THE CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE...[caption title].
[Blount, William]:

[Philadelphia? 1798]. 4pp. printed on a single folded sheet. Slight edge wear. Good. Two depositions, one from Casa d'Yrujo, Spanish minister plenipotentiary, the other from John Phillips Ripley, relating to the nascent impeachment trial against the former senator from Tennessee, William Blount. Blount was expelled from the Senate for his role in conspiring to incite the Cherokees and Creeks to aid the British in seizing Florida from Spain. Both of the present statements concern the earlier testimony of Abraham Holden which was instrumental in the case against Blount. The impeachment trial was later dropped, Blount's expulsion from the Senate being deemed sufficient punishment. Scarce. NAIP w027158. EVANS 34788.
