WILLIAM BLACKMORE: THE SPANISH-MEXICAN LAND GRANTS OF NEW MEXICO AND COLORADO, 1863 - 1878. [with:] WILLIAM BLACKMORE: EARLY FINANCING OF THE DENVER & RIO GRANDE RAILWAY AND ANCILLARY LAND COMPANIES, 1871 - 1878.
Brayer, Herbert O.:
Denver. 1949. Two volumes. 381; 333pp. Frontispiece portrait in each volume. Plates. Maps. Original blue cloth. Very good. From an edition limited to 500 numbered copies. The first volume is inscribed by the author on the limitation page. An excellent account of Blackmore's ambitious plans for developing northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. Blackmore was also a notable ethnologist, and as such formed a great collection of American Indian material, now at the British Museum. He was closely involved with the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, hoping that the line would bring value to his huge land holdings. Unfortunately, the plan was not realized soon enough for Blackmore, and he went bankrupt and committed suicide.
