A very unflattering review of the life of Reed, lawyer and politician who became military secretary to his friend, George Washington, after the battle of Lexington. He served valiantly during the Revolution, and was elected a delegate to the Continental Congress from Pennsylvania in 1777. In no uncertain terms Bancroft refutes the claims published by Reed's grandson touting his greatness. DAB XV, pp.450-53.
